During the 2019 Setouchi Triennale’s Fall Expansions (September 28th – November 4th) Awashima island will be host to a variety of events. Check out the schedule below!

As the home of Japan’s first maritime school, Awashima Island has a lot of stories to tell. Watch girls and women born and raised in the Setouchi perform the Story of Awashima Maritime School. For more information, visit the official Setouchi Triennale website.

Dates: 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2 *Dates may be subject to change
Time: 10:00am – 11:30am, 12:15pm – 1:45pm *Sign-in begins 30 min. in advance at Suda Port
Admission: ¥3,000 at the door (¥2,800 for triennale passport holders)
¥1,500 for students high school and below (advance or at the door)
Children kindergarten and younger are free
Admission will be limited to 20 people each performance. Ticket price includes lunch

Ca Trù, a Traditional Vietnamese Art

Combining music with poetry, Ca trù is a traditional form of music from Vietnam that has been performed for over 1000 years. In 2009, UNESCO designated it an intangible cultural world heritage. Now, 10 years later, this emotionally-charged art form has come to Awashijma Island to celebrate the opening of the Triennale’s Fall season.

The Missing Post Office houses letters from around the world that can’t be delivered. Open hours are expanded for the duration of the 2019 Setouchi Triennale.
※The Missing Post Office is not a part of the 2019 Setouchi Triennale, but is maintained by Kagawa’s Prefectural Cooperative Enterprises.

The Seed is a Ship Project (TANeFUNe)

This ship was designed with the philosophy that “a seed is like a ship that connects people, things, and places,” in mind. Climb aboard with captain Naoto Kita and find out this philosophy’s veracity for yourself!

Board the Ototoimaru, a floating art museum of treasures and artifacts recovered from the floor of the Seto Inland Sea.

Re-ing-A Workshop

Many objects wash ashore on Nishihama Beach. Where did these items come from? What happened while they were adrift? With these thoughts and these items, participants will come together to create a place of imaginings with Satsuki Imai and Eriko Shirota.
