Kamonokoshi & Maruyamajima Island
Get into the fairy tale mindset as you visit a spot that is quite literally legendary.
The legend of Urashima Taro (somewhat similar to the story of Rip Van Winkle) is well-known throughout Japan, and many people say that it took place here in Takuma. It is said that when Urashima Taro rescued the turtle that led him on his adventure, it was on the beach at Kamonokoshi.
During low tide, the sea recedes and visitors can walk across the sandbar to Maruyamajima Island. It's also famous for beautiful sunsets, especially in February and October, when you might get a glimpse of an omega sunset.
