Sand Coin (Kan-ei Tsuho) Zenigata-Sunae
A piece of history said to bring good fortune and good finances
Formed in the shape of a historic coin called a Kan-ei Tsuho, this sculpture is a favorite of many local people.
Formed from the white sand of Ariake beach, this huge sand sculpture is 122m high, 90m wide, and has a circumference of 345m.
It's said that the sculpture was originally constructed overnight in 1633 for the visit of Takatoshi Ikoma, the fuedal lord of Marugame at the time.
The sculpture is repaired and restored year in Spring and Autumn to maintain the form and beauty of the piece.

12 min drive (about 6km) from the Onohara exit of the Takamatsu Expressway
15 min drive (about 8km) from the Sanuki Toyonaka exit of the Takamatsu Expressway
5 min by taxi from JR Kan-onji Station
A bus also runs to the sand coin 4 times per day)
For Visitors Coming by Bus:
Please use the free parking on the East side of Ariake Ground and walk 15 min to the observation deck.
(The road to the observation deck includes a tunnel that cannot accomodate large or medium buses)
No entry onto the sand coin itself.
